Searching for Savannah’s best BBQ? Here’s our ranking of the top spots for brisket, ribs, pulled pork, and more.
Barbecue has its place in Savannah’s food culture, with a handful of spots that truly stand out. From smoky brisket to tender ribs, locals know good BBQ when they taste it — and after plenty of plates, pulled pork sandwiches, and a few rib bones too many, here’s our honest rankings of where to find the best BBQ in town right now.
If you know, you know. Slow Fire started in January 2023 out of a converted school bus food truck, and it didn’t take long for word to spread. They’re working toward a brick-and-mortar spot at 1904 Waters Ave, but for now, you’ll need to catch them around town, check their Instagram for daily locations.
And trust me, it’s worth the chase. This is the real deal, Texas-style BBQ, with brisket so juicy and tender it practically melts in your mouth. The pulled pork, wings, and even their brisket mac and cheese bites are all top notch, but the brisket is the star. It’s not every day you find Texas-level brisket this far east. Slow Fire is the clear #1 in Savannah right now, in our opinion.
Sandfly is one of those spots you can recommend to anyone, because everything on the menu hits. It’s tucked into the Sandfly neighborhood, which already adds to the charm, and they deliver on both classic plates and creative twists.
The brisket is moist, seasoned perfectly, and consistently good... but the sleeper hit here is the Pork Fries. It’s technically an appetizer, but honestly, it’s a full meal. A pile of fries topped with pulled pork, cheese, and BBQ sauce, it’s messy in the best way possible. Add their Brunswick stew or mac and cheese on the side and you’ll walk away happy (and probably full for the rest of the day).
Randy’s is old school, no-frills, and loved by locals for good reason. Don’t expect a long menu here, they keep it simple with just ribs and chicken, but both are some of the best you’ll find. The ribs especially are the move: meaty, smoky, tender, and served in a $5 plate stacked with four ribs and two slices of bread.
Be warned, though: Randy’s sells out often, so the earlier you go, the better. It’s takeout only, and it’s cash only (though there’s an ATM out front if you forget). The long line out the door is part of the experience, and when you finally get your hands on those ribs, you’ll understand why this little spot makes the top 3.
Savannah might not be Memphis or Austin, but the BBQ scene here is pretty strong. Slow Fire is leading the pack with its Texas-inspired brisket, Sandfly balances tradition with fun twists, and Randy’s proves that simple, old-school BBQ still holds its ground.
