Savannah's restaurant scene has welcomed another highly anticipated addition with the opening of La Vetta, a new modern Italian restaurant from Southern Cross Hospitality in the heart of downtown on Broughton Street.
Leading the kitchen is Executive Chef Michele Minchillo, a native of Italy's Puglia region whose experience includes Michelin starred restaurants. Rather than focusing on a single region of Italy, La Vetta's menu draws inspiration from across the country, blending traditional Italian flavors with a modern approach and an emphasis on fresh seafood.
The menu features a mix of crudi, handmade pastas, antipasti, and seafood forward entrées. Standout dishes include Bluefin Tuna Crudi, Cacio e Pepe Scampi e Lime with Argentine red shrimp, and Black Cod Confit served with a Mediterranean inspired dashi sauce.
The beverage program is equally unique, with cocktails inspired by the characters of the 16th century Italian theater tradition Commedia dell'Arte. Each drink is built around a different character, giving the cocktail menu its own creative identity alongside the food.
Inside, La Vetta offers a contemporary dining room centered around an open kitchen, allowing guests to watch the culinary team at work. The space was designed by Savannah based Studio THŌ and features custom seating, an 18 seat bar, and a hand painted blue gradient mural inspired by the colors of sunrise over an Italian mountain peak.
The restaurant also has more planned for the future. An underground cocktail lounge called V is expected to open in the coming months, along with private dining space for groups of up to 50 guests.
Located at 223 W. Broughton Street, La Vetta adds another upscale dining destination to downtown Savannah and brings a fresh, modern take on Italian cuisine to one of the city's busiest streets.
