More retail is on the way to Port Wentworth, with plans now pointing to both a Wawa and an Aldi coming to the area.

A commercial property off Augusta Avenue near Highway 21 was recently purchased by Atlanta based developer BrixWorx Development for $3.3 million. The site sits near Tidal Wave Car Wash and across from Publix, placing it in one of the city’s more active retail corridors.

Plans for the development have been in motion for some time. A previous proposal for the site included a convenience store with fuel pumps along with a grocery component, and that vision now appears to be taking shape with Wawa and Aldi expected to anchor the project.

City leadership has also confirmed the additions in recent months, with Aldi expected to be located near the Rice Creek area as part of the broader development. The addition of a grocery option like Aldi is seen as a practical fit for the area, especially as Port Wentworth continues to grow.

Wawa’s expansion into the region has been steadily picking up as well. The convenience store chain announced plans to enter Georgia in 2024, with dozens of locations expected across the state over the next several years. There is already a location open in Pooler, and another Wawa is also planned along Highway 21 just a few miles from this site.

While a construction timeline has not yet been announced, the project signals continued growth along the Highway 21 corridor. With both a Wawa and an Aldi planned, the development adds to the list of new retail options coming to Port Wentworth as the area continues to expand.
