For years, Savannah Scone Company has built a loyal following from its small Midtown bakery on East 65th Street. The concept was simple: grab a fresh scone, grab a coffee, and get on with your day.
Now, the local bakery is expanding on that formula with a new downtown location at 31 W. Congress Street.
While the Midtown shop remains focused on quick service and takeout, the new location gives customers something many had been requesting for years: a place to sit down, meet friends, enjoy a coffee, and stay awhile.
The new café officially opened earlier this month after transforming a long-vacant Congress Street storefront into a bright coffee shop and bakery in the heart of downtown Savannah.
Savannah Scone Company changed ownership in 2025 when Beth Copic purchased the business, but longtime customers will still find many of the same recipes that helped build the bakery’s reputation. The bakery rotates through hundreds of sweet and savory scone flavors throughout the year, alongside locally roasted coffee and espresso drinks.
The expansion marks a big step for a business that started as a small local bakery and has steadily grown through word of mouth and a devoted customer base.
For downtown visitors, it adds another locally owned coffee option just steps from Johnson Square and Broughton Street. And judging by the crowds that showed up during opening week, Savannah was more than ready for it.
