One of Savannah’s most recognizable brands may soon be expanding once again.

Plans filed with the city indicate that Leopold’s Ice Cream is preparing to open a new location in the Starland District at 2400 Bull Street, taking over the space recently vacated by Lite Foot Company. While the location has not been officially announced by Leopold’s, the company is currently seeking approval to install a neon illuminated wall sign at the property, a strong sign that scoops could soon be coming to one of Savannah’s fastest growing neighborhoods.

If approved, the Starland shop would become Leopold’s fourth location, joining its flagship Broughton Street parlor, the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport location, and its Whitemarsh Island shop.

For many Savannah residents, the biggest story may be where this location is headed. Over the last several years, Starland has transformed into one of the city’s most popular districts, filled with restaurants, bars, galleries, coffee shops, boutiques, and entertainment venues.

The new shop would be located in the mixed use development that also houses Brochu’s Family Tradition, F45 Training, Garden Square, and Sola Salon. The property itself has a long history, previously serving as home to local grocery stores before being redeveloped into one of the district’s commercial anchors.

The potential addition of Leopold’s gives Starland another high profile local business and continues the neighborhood’s momentum as one of Savannah’s most active dining and retail districts.

The proposal is scheduled to go before Savannah’s Historic Preservation Commission this week. If approved, Starland residents may soon have a much shorter drive for a scoop of Savannah’s most famous ice cream.
