A look at Savannah’s newest openings this summer, from The Laundry Diner and Switchyards to downtown’s new hotel and Tybee’s latest addition.
Savannah’s been busy lately—here’s a roundup of some of the newest spots that have opened their doors this summer, from fresh places to eat to creative spaces to work (or just escape the heat).
The Laundry Diner
A new addition to Thomas Square, The Laundry Diner comes from the team behind Two Tides Brewing and is located at 1401 Paulsen Street. It’s a restored laundromat turned casual diner serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late-night eats. The menu includes waffles, biscuits, sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and other diner staples. The space is laid-back but intentional, with Two Tides beer available on tap and a small grocery section for grab-and-go items.
Switchyards Savannah
Switchyards has officially arrived in Starland at 217 E 41st Street. It’s a membership-based work club that offers 24/7 access, fast Wi-Fi, and complimentary local coffee from Origin and Perc. It’s a quiet, laptop-friendly spot meant for focused solo work or casual meetings.. Memberships are $100 per month, and doors are now opened.
Jim ’n Nick’s Bar-B-Q
Now open near Oglethorpe Mall, Jim ’n Nick’s brings their signature smoked meats and classic sides to Savannah’s southside. This is their 18th Georgia location, and the setup includes both dine-in seating and dual drive-thrus.
Troupial
Troupial is back in business as of mid-July, now at the corner of East 70th and Sutlive Streets. The Venezuelan café was a favorite for coffee, arepas, and breakfast plates before closing last year—and now it’s officially reopened.
The Kelpie on Tybee
Tybee’s newest restaurant, The Kelpie, is opening its doors with a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 1 at 5:30 p.m.
Chopt Creative Salad Co.
Chopt is now open in the Abercorn Walk shopping center, near Fresh Market. It’s a fast-casual spot offering salads, bowls, sandwiches, and wraps—good for a quick lunch that’s on the healthier side.
Municipal Grand Hotel
Downtown’s newest hotel has taken over the former municipal building on Abercorn Street. Now reopened as the Municipal Grand, the space includes 44 rooms, a restaurant, two bars, and a pool. It’s a big project that adds a new landmark to the historic district.
Whether you’re grabbing breakfast at The Laundry, working from Switchyards, or just checking out something new, there’s plenty of new places to explore around town this summer.
