Stay cool this summer with Savannah-friendly activities like museum visits, evening beach walks, riverboat rides, and more ways to beat the heat.

Savannah summers are no joke. When the midday sun hits full force and the humidity settles in, it’s time to cool down, or at least find some shade. Here are a few ideas for staying comfortable around town without giving up on summer fun:

Explore a museum

Savannah has plenty of options for a breezy indoor afternoon. The SCAD Museum of Art, the Savannah History Museum, or the new Savannah Paranormal Museum are all great spots to escape the sun and soak up something cultural in the A/C.

Catch a movie

Take refuge in a dark, cool theater—or head outdoors after sunset. The Lucas Theatre downtown is a classic pick for indie films, and this Saturday at 8:30 p.m., Plant Riverside District is hosting Movies in the Park, a free outdoor screening of Toy Story 2 with the river as your backdrop.

Take a ferry or riverboat ride

The Savannah Belles Ferry is a free and scenic way to enjoy the breeze off the water. For something more festive, hop on a Savannah Riverboat Cruise aboard the Georgia Queen for a shaded cruise with skyline views and drinks onboard.

Visit a local brewery (with indoor seating)

Spots like Service Brewing, Two Tides, and Southbound Brewing all have indoor taprooms where you can hang out with a cold drink and beat the heat for a while.

Plan an early morning or evening walk

Avoid the heat by getting outside before 9 a.m. (Because it WILL be hot by then) or after the sun starts to dip. A breezy walk at Skidaway Island State Park or an evening stroll on the beach at Tybee can be the perfect lowkey summer reset.

Cool down with a treat

Whether it’s Leopold’s classic ice cream, Italian ice from Jeremiah's, or a treat at the Baked Bear, a cold treat is always a good call on a hot day.
