Savannah saw a light round of snow on Saturday, marking another rare winter moment for the area. Most spots around the city picked up less than an inch, with snowfall amounts varying depending on location and timing of the heavier bands.
Areas just north of Savannah saw more significant totals. Bluffton reported around three inches of snow, while Beaufort picked up roughly two inches. Statesboro came in closer to 1.7 inches, making it one of the higher totals in southeast Georgia.
Within Savannah itself, snowfall was generally lighter and more inconsistent, with many neighborhoods seeing only a thin coating on grassy areas and rooftops. Roads remained mostly wet, though some briefly picked up slushy patches before conditions improved.
What made this event stand out was not just the snow, but the fact that Savannah experienced measurable snowfall for the second winter in a row. Last year’s event brought around two inches to parts of the area, something many longtime residents had not seen in decades.
Following the snow, temperatures dropped sharply overnight, with early Sunday morning lows near 20 degrees. While the snow did not linger long in Savannah, the cold air stuck around, making it feel much more like winter than usual for the region.
Snow events remain rare here, and even light totals tend to grab attention across the Lowcountry. This weekend’s snowfall was another reminder that winter weather, while uncommon, can still make an appearance from time to time in coastal Georgia.
