Savannah’s iconic stainless steel diner at the corner of Habersham and Anderson is officially back open.

Bobbie’s Diner, operated by the Savannah College of Art and Design, has reopened to the public following renovations that refreshed the space while preserving its classic mid century character. The retro landmark now features a new kitchen addition, a covered outdoor dining area, and updated interior spaces designed to complement the original structure.

The diner has a long history in Savannah. In 1989, SCAD acquired the stainless steel structure, originally fabricated in the early 1950s by Mountain View Diners Company of New Jersey. The diner was transported from Rhode Island and reopened in 1991 under the leadership of former residence hall director and SCAD alum Bobbie Gautreau.

Gautreau quickly became part of the diner’s identity. Known for her homemade desserts and welcoming presence, she helped establish Bobbie’s as a favorite among students and the surrounding community. Though she has since retired, her legacy remains woven into the space, including her likeness featured in the diner’s neon sign.

More recently, the location operated as Fork and Dagger before closing at the end of 2023 after SCAD ended the lease. The reopening of Bobbie’s marks a return to the site’s roots, with classic diner fare and comfort foods served in a space that celebrates its original design.

Now restored to highlight its Art Deco shine, Bobbie’s is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., offering breakfast and lunch in one of Savannah’s most recognizable dining rooms. For longtime locals and newer residents alike, the reopening brings back a familiar corner spot that blends history, nostalgia, and everyday dining.
