Actress Maddie Ziegler is back in Savannah, this time to film the upcoming thriller Girl. Ziegler previously visited the city as a featured guest at the SCAD Savannah Film Festival and has now returned alongside fellow stars Luke Newton, best known for Netflix's Bridgerton, and Storm Reid, known for Euphoria, A Wrinkle in Time, and The Last of Us. The film is directed by Destry Spielberg, daughter of legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg.
While plot details have largely been kept under wraps, Girl is described as a thriller. Filming is taking place at multiple locations around the Savannah area, including Wilmington Island, with additional scenes expected at other local sites through Aug. 21.
Savannah has become one of Georgia's busiest filming destinations in recent years thanks to its historic architecture, coastal scenery, and established film industry. From major feature films to television series, productions continue to choose the area as a backdrop, bringing cast, crews, and production activity to the region throughout the year.
If you notice film crews, production vehicles, or temporary road closures around town over the next couple of weeks, there's a good chance they're connected to Girl. Filming is expected to wrap on Aug. 21 before the project moves into post production.
