The Savannah Bananas are taking another big step forward, with plans to build a $4 million headquarters inside Daffin Park next to Grayson Stadium. Approved by City Council earlier this month, the 10,000-square-foot building will be funded and maintained by the team, though it will become city property if their lease ends.
The new facility is meant to provide office space and upgraded locker rooms as the Bananas gear up to launch their own six-team Banana Ball league in 2026. The group already employs more than 200 people and says the new space is needed to support future growth.
While the team’s success has brought national attention and packed crowds to Savannah, not everyone is thrilled with the deal. Some locals have raised concerns about losing public parking inside Daffin Park and the lack of open discussion at the council meeting where the lease change was approved. Others point out that tickets—once $10 to $20—now start at $35, with many seats filled by out-of-town visitors.
Still, there’s no denying the Bananas’ impact. Every game at Grayson Stadium sells out, drawing fans from across the country and boosting tourism. The city also recently committed $3 million in SPLOST funds for turf, lighting, and scoreboard upgrades at the stadium.
Whether you love them for the energy they’ve brought to Savannah or worry about the balance between tourism and locals, the Bananas aren’t slowing down. Their new headquarters is expected to break ground soon, right in the heart of Daffin Park.
