One of Savannah’s most recognizable landmarks is officially back. On Friday, December 19, the City of Savannah will host a community celebration to mark the restoration and reactivation of the Forsyth Park Fountain, bringing the iconic centerpiece back to life after months of restoration work. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. at the fountain and is open to the public, offering locals a chance to gather and see the fountain running again in time for the holidays.
The morning will start with a brief program attended by Mayor Van Johnson, members of Savannah City Council, and City Manager Jay Melder, recognizing the fountain’s long history and its role as a gathering place for generations of Savannahians. Once the fountain is officially reactivated, the focus shifts from ceremony to celebration, with families, neighbors, and visitors invited to linger around the newly restored fountain and enjoy a relaxed, holiday-themed atmosphere in the park.
From 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Santa and Mrs. Claus will be on hand for photos in front of the fountain, making it an easy and festive stop for families. Light refreshments, holiday activities, and commemorative keepsakes will also be available as part of the celebration, marking a moment that many locals have been waiting for since the fountain was temporarily removed for its first major restoration in decades.
Attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to support the Toys for Tots drive, helping extend the spirit of the season beyond Forsyth Park and into the wider Savannah community. While the event itself is brief, it marks the return of a landmark that many people pass every day, and Friday morning offers a chance to pause, celebrate, and welcome back a familiar part of Savannah’s landscape.
The celebration takes place Friday, December 19, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Forsyth Park.
