Dachshunds race at Plant Riverside District in a family event supporting Savannah’s Waterfront.
The Savannah Wiener Dog Races have been rescheduled from Saturday, October 10 to Saturday, October 31, 2026 because of the expected tropical storm impacts on Savannah’s waterfront. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Martin Luther King Jr. Park at Plant Riverside District, 400 West River Street, and supports Savannah’s Waterfront.
Previously registered dogs are automatically registered for October 31. Owners who cannot attend the new date may contact Savannah’s Waterfront to request a refund of their entry fees.
Race entry costs $25. Registration and check-in open at 9 a.m. and close at 10:45 a.m., or when heats fill. Dogs must weigh 25 pounds or less. Weight classes are up to 7 pounds, 8 to 14 pounds, and 15 pounds or more.
Heat winners advance to a final race. The grand prize includes a trophy and a certificate for a two-night stay at JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside District. Dachshund mixes may enter the “Almost A Wiener” heat but cannot compete for the grand prize.
The dog parade and costume contest begin at 11 a.m., followed by the race heats and final. Only dogs registered for the races may participate in the parade and costume contest.
Owners must provide current rabies vaccination records, bring an assistant and complete required waivers. Dogs must remain leashed except while racing. See the organizer’s page for registration and complete participation rules.
