Learn about coastal crabs and enjoy a hands-on catch-and-release crabbing lesson.
Crabbing 101 at the UGA Marine Education Center and Aquarium offers an engaging, family-friendly way to explore the fascinating world of crabs along Georgia’s coast. The program starts indoors, where participants discover fun facts about blue crabs, examine a variety of coastal crab species up close in touch tanks, and learn surprising details, such as the meaning behind the blue crab’s scientific name and why a horseshoe crab isn’t a true crab.
After the indoor session, the adventure moves outdoors to the dock for a hands-on, catch-and-release crabbing experience. The activity is designed for both fun and learning, making it perfect for children and adults alike. Registration includes admission to the UGA Aquarium, and children ages 5 and up are welcome with a registered adult. Cost is $25 per participant, with tickets being nonrefundable. It’s an educational and interactive way to spend a summer morning by the water.
