The Grove Closes as Christmas Pop-Up and Disco Bar Head to Congress Street

The former Grove on Congress Street will become a Christmas pop-up before Good Night John Boy brings a 1970s-style disco bar to downtown Savannah.

The Grove has closed on West Congress Street, and the building’s next chapter will begin with a Christmas pop-up before a new disco bar moves in.

The restaurant and rooftop bar at 301 W. Congress Street closed October 23 under new ownership. Work is underway to turn the ground floor into XMAS Bar, with a holiday-themed rooftop called The North Pole.

The operator has announced a November 7 grand opening for XMAS Bar. Plans call for Christmas lights, seasonal cocktails and holiday music, with the pop-up open to adults 21 and older.

After the holiday season, the space is expected to become Good Night John Boy, a bar built around a 1970s disco theme. The Savannah location is planned for March 2027, with a dance floor and lounge seating.

Good Night John Boy already has locations in cities including Cleveland, Chicago and St. Petersburg. The Congress Street location will be its first in Savannah.
