We recently asked HelloSav readers a simple question: what’s the most underrated restaurant in Savannah?
As expected, the answers were all over the place in a good way. Some were neighborhood staples that have been around for years, others were smaller spots that don’t always get the spotlight, and a few were newer places people feel deserve more attention.
A handful of restaurants came up more than once. Castaways was mentioned for its seafood, with one reader specifically calling out the crab stew. Yia Yia’s also made multiple appearances, especially for its gyros, along with Bubba Gumbo’s. Sandfly Southern Soul showed up as well, which continues to be one of those places people either already love or have been meaning to try.
Other mentions included Noble Fare, Veratina for Italian, Repeal, Coach’s Corner, Chiriya’s Thai Cuisine, Spudnik, Bedford’s, St. Neo’s Brasserie, and West Broad Bandshell. A few readers also highlighted specific go to dishes around town, like tacos from Taqueria El San Luis and steak fried rice bowls from Sumo Hibachi on Victory.
Overall, the list is a good reminder of how many solid restaurants in Savannah tend to fly under the radar. Some of these are places people pass by all the time without stopping, while others are tucked away or just not part of the usual conversation.
If you’re looking to try somewhere new without going to the same usual spots, this is a good place to start.
