Savannah is once again playing host to a major film production, with scenes from Road House 2, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, currently being filmed around the city. Crews have been spotted at several familiar locations, bringing noticeable activity and temporary changes to parts of downtown and the Historic District.
Filming began this week and is scheduled to continue through the end of January. Over the past several days, production trucks, lighting equipment, and camera crews have been visible near Forsyth Park, along River Street, and at the American Legion on Bull Street.
The film brings some recognizable names to town. Jake Gyllenhaal returns to his role as an ex UFC fighter, a character introduced in the 2024 reboot of Road House. He is joined by co stars Dave Bautista and Aldis Hodge, along with a larger cast that includes professional fighters who were recently added to the project. Several residents have been stopping by filming locations in hopes of catching a glimpse of the cast or watching scenes being set up.
This installment continues the rebooted Road House franchise, which originally debuted in 1989 starring Patrick Swayze. While the new films take the story in a different direction, the sequel continues to lean into action driven scenes that fit well with Savannah’s outdoor locations and recognizable streetscapes.
Filming in Savannah comes after production work earlier in the fall that took place in Malta and the United Kingdom. The local shoot marks a visible return of larger film projects to the area after a slower year for movie and television productions in 2025. For many residents, seeing active sets and equipment around town is a familiar sight that had been missing for a bit.
As with most productions, filming does not mean constant street closures, but there may be intermittent disruptions, especially around Forsyth Park and River Street. Pedestrians and drivers may notice increased foot traffic, posted notices, or short term restrictions as scenes are filmed throughout the day and into the evening hours.
At this point, there is no official release date announced for Road House 2. Until then, locals can expect to keep seeing lights, cameras, and crew members around town for the next few weeks, adding another chapter to the city’s long history of serving as a filming location for major motion pictures.
