A new Publix appears to be moving forward at Eastern Wharf.

A building permit application filed with the City of Savannah on February 26 outlines plans for a roughly 36,000 square foot Publix with a parking garage level at the entrance to the riverfront development. While the filing does not include a construction timeline, project documents identify Publix Supermarkets as the intended tenant.

The proposed two story building would rise along East President Street near the southeastern edge of Eastern Wharf, close to the Savannah River and just west of the Truman Parkway ramp. The location would position Publix at a main entry point into the growing mixed use district.

Branch Properties, an Atlanta based retail developer known for working on Publix anchored centers, is listed as a project contact in the permit documents. A general contractor has not yet been named.

Eastern Wharf has continued to add apartments, office space, restaurants, and retail as development progresses along the riverfront. A Publix at the front of the project would mark another significant addition as the area continues to take shape.

For now, the permit filing represents the first official step connected to the plan. Additional details, including a potential construction schedule, are expected as the project advances.
