Savannah has a new guest this week: Netflix’s hit series Sweet Magnolias is in town to film its season five finale. Crews set up around the Foley House Inn beginning Monday, with prep work inside and outside the property leading up to an overnight shoot.
The show, created by Sheryl Anderson and based on the novels by Sherryl Woods, follows three lifelong friends as they navigate love, family, and community in their small Southern town. Starring JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, and Heather Headley, Sweet Magnolias has built a loyal fanbase thanks to its heartwarming storytelling and relatable characters.
For this finale episode, the story brings the characters to Savannah. Anderson, who previously scouted the city with her team, said it was always a natural fit. "When we were looking for a place for the ladies to go, we thought — Savannah! It’s gorgeous, it’s picturesque."
Filming kicked off with prep work on Monday, September 15, and included a late night shoot from 12 a.m. to 3 a.m. early Tuesday morning. Crews are expected to remain in the area through Thursday, September 18, to finish wrapping up production.
As part of the shoot, several temporary parking lane closures are in place around the Foley House Inn:
Most of the filming activity is centered near the inn itself, with both interior and exterior scenes being shot. Equipment trucks and staging areas are also set up nearby, so locals should plan for some extra congestion in that section of the Historic District during filming days.
While filming is only in town for a few days, the episode will put Savannah directly on screen when season five of Sweet Magnolias premieres on Netflix. For fans of the show, it will be fun to spot familiar streets and landmarks in the background when the finale airs.
