Mitsubishi Power is planning a $490 million expansion of Savannah Machinery Works in Pooler, more than doubling the size of its manufacturing facility and adding more than 220 jobs.
Announced October 23, the project will add 450,000 square feet to the existing 430,000-square-foot plant at 1000 Pine Meadow Drive. The facility builds and services gas turbines, steam turbines and other equipment used to generate electricity.
The expansion will make room for more machining equipment and manufacturing technology as demand for power generation equipment grows. New jobs are expected across manufacturing, engineering, quality, maintenance, logistics and support roles.
Savannah Machinery Works has been part of the area’s manufacturing industry since 2010. Construction began in 2009, and the first gas turbine produced at the plant shipped in October 2012. The facility shipped its 50th advanced-class gas turbine in 2023.
The investment comes from parent company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Mitsubishi Power and the Savannah Economic Development Authority have signed an expansion agreement, with a groundbreaking still to come.
The company’s Savannah careers page lists manufacturing opportunities, including machinist, welder and gas turbine rotor assembler positions.
