A new place to hit the ice is officially open in Port Wentworth. Ice Cove celebrated its opening on September 12 as part of the city’s 912 Day festivities, bringing public skating, hockey, lessons, dining and more to the growing Anchor Park development.
The two-rink facility also serves as the new practice home of the Savannah Ghost Pirates, but you don’t have to play hockey to use it. Public skating sessions are available for all skill levels, with general admission priced at $15. Adults 55 and older can skate for $10, while admission for children 5 and under is $5. Skate rentals are an additional $5.
For anyone looking to get a little more comfortable on the ice, Ice Cove’s Learn to Skate program begins its nine-week fall session on October 3. Classes are available for both children and adults, with Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday options. The session costs $199 plus tax.
There’s also plenty beyond public skating. Ice Cove will host youth and adult hockey programs, parties and other activities throughout the year. The facility includes a pro shop along with The Frozen Anchor, a full-service sports bar and restaurant that opened alongside the rink.
Ice Cove is located at 18 Anchor Park Boulevard in Port Wentworth, near Highway 21 and I-95. Public skating is offered around the rink’s other scheduled activities, so visitors should check the schedule before heading out.
The opening marks another major piece of Anchor Park coming online following the debut of VyStar Pavilion last month, with the larger development continuing to take shape as a new sports and entertainment destination for the Savannah area.
