Finches Sandwiches & Sundries has announced it will be closing, marking the end of a well known neighborhood spot in Thunderbolt.
The owners shared the news on social media, explaining that after months of trying to secure the property, their lease and option to purchase the building has been terminated. They explored multiple funding options but ultimately were unable to move forward, citing the risks tied to the building’s history as a former gas station and the potential environmental concerns that come with it.
Finches first opened more than five years ago and quickly built a following as a smaller, off the main path sandwich shop. Over time, the space evolved, with updates that added indoor seating and a bar, turning it into more of a destination for locals.
According to the announcement, the team plans to continue operating as usual for now, though their final days are approaching. No exact closing date has been shared yet.
The post also emphasized appreciation for staff and the local support they’ve received over the years, while noting that the team will now begin figuring out what comes next.
Finches had its ups and downs along the way, including a lower health inspection score last year that drew some attention, but it remained a regular stop for many in the area.
For now, the focus is simply on the final stretch. Those who have been meaning to stop by still have a chance, as the shop remains open until further notice.
