Crystal Beer Parlor is temporarily closed after an early morning fire damaged part of the building overnight.

Savannah Fire responded around 2:45 a.m. Friday to reports of a fire at the restaurant on West Jones Street. Crews arrived to find flames and heavy smoke coming from an exterior walk-in cooler behind the building.

Firefighters were able to put the fire out quickly, and the flames did not reach the main building. That quick response prevented far more serious damage to one of Savannah’s oldest and most beloved restaurants.

Owner John Nichols said he’s grateful for how fast the fire department acted. For now, Crystal Beer Parlor will remain closed until further notice while repairs and inspections get underway.
