Savannah’s new Daffin Park Signature Playground isn’t open just yet. Crews are correcting drainage problems at the play space in the park’s northwest corner, and the city will set an opening date after the work is finished and the site passes its final inspection.
Water began pooling at the playground after construction, prompting the city to keep it closed while repairs are made. Work began October 6 to install drainage pipe and restore the site to the proper grade.
The current schedule calls for drainage work and site restoration to wrap up by October 19, weather permitting, followed by termite treatment by October 21 and a final field inspection by October 22. Crews also need to replace mulch, finish fencing and prepare the restrooms before the playground can welcome families.
The project is designed for children ages 2 to 12, with accessible play areas, a splashpad and a new restroom. Planned equipment includes climbing structures, slides, swings, a seesaw and activity stations, along with shaded space.
Construction began in September 2025 as part of Savannah’s Recreation Reimagined initiative. The playground sits near East Victory Drive and Waters Avenue and is intended to give children with different abilities a place to play together.
The city expects to announce an opening date in November after the site is cleared for use. A ribbon cutting will follow, with the next construction update expected after the October 22 inspection.
