A New Gathering Space Is Coming to Forsyth Park

Savannah is adding a gathering space at Forsyth Park with seating, shade trees and landscaping, with other recreation improvements also being planned.

Forsyth Park is getting a new place to sit, meet up and spend time outside. Savannah plans to begin work this month on a gathering space at the park’s north end, adding seating, shade trees, landscaping and better accessibility.

The first work will include pruning trees, removing old play equipment and grading the area. The project is meant to make the space more comfortable and easier to use while keeping the character of the park.

Updated plans show seating arranged among landscaped areas and trees rather than a new building. The design follows a public survey held in November 2025 that drew 225 responses from residents across more than 20 Savannah neighborhoods.

The gathering space is part of a broader set of recreation improvements being planned for Forsyth. Those include an adult fitness area, more swings, upgrades to the existing splash pad and a new splash-pad play area.

Those additional projects are still being worked out. Their locations, schedules and budgets have not been finalized, so they should not be expected to open alongside the gathering space.

For now, the next visible change will be the preparation work beginning in October. A completion date for the gathering space has not been announced.
